"The grass is always greener on the other side"
The phrase I use for my life. The grass is always greener on the other side. You know, sometimes in fact, it is. However, most the time it's not.
"It is what you do not have, that is most often what you desire. But remember what you have was once what you longed for"
Try to think from another persons shoes. Perspective is everything. I find it difficult sometimes to not be jealous of the experiences of others for what they are doing in their life, where they are living, or what activities they are doing. I often find that I compare myself with others. I find it especially hard in college as everything is on a timeline. Gradguate high school, attend college, get degree, get a job, get married, have a kid. But in fact it's not like that at all. You can't compare yourself to others, but we do it all the time. Each person goes through different things at different times. One must acknowledge their own current stage, and be proud. You have to be proud of where you are. Find worth in what you are doing and likely you'll start to find more and more things worth your time.
Find Worth in Yourself and What you are Doing
We are all in different areas of our lives. You must not compare yourself to others because it would be a disproportionate comparison. I have problems with this in dance. I often see myself in the mirror and look at the person next to me right away picking up things that they have which I do not posses. Whether it be a flatter stomach or better turnout, it all boils down to comparison and not a healthy one at that. To compare properly we need to compare ourselves to who we were yesterday.
"Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not who someone else is today" John Peterson
Take things into perspective. For example, maybe the person next to me who has great turnout also has oppressive parents who make her stretch every second. They have dreams of their child becoming a ballet dancer when all she wants is to hang out with her friends. The grass is always greener on the other side until you get a sneak peak behind the green screen. However, sometimes that person does have great turnout gained on their own and they still hang out with their friends. But we never know someone's story until we dive deeper, and frankly until we ask. So who really knows. Just remember
you = you, not, you = someone else
That is really the only way you will advance in any aspect because that is when you start seriously focusing on your task.
